Toni has always been interested in natural medicine and has co-owned and operated the popular “Down To Earth” healthfood store for the past 12 years. Toni has been heavily involved in the Bermudian community during the past 2 decades. Her efforts have included working as a crisis hotline counsellor with the Women’s Resource Centre for more than 15 years; volunteering with the Women’s Hospital Auxilliary; volunteering as a tutor at the Adult Education Centre and currently holding a position as a trustee and volunteer with the Menuhin Foundation. Toni loves animals, open spaces and has a special concern for environmental matters, leading her to be a strong supporter of the Bermuda Environment & Sustainability Taskforce (BEST). She is an elder at Christ Church, Warwick. After a 6 year long legal battle, in 2005, Toni adopted her first child and the case set a precedent as the first single person of colour to adopt from China as well as a legal & policy precedent in the UK. The effort involved was testament to her personality, which is always focused and determined. She has embraced her role as an adoptive mother, and has maintained a keen interest in China. Toni became involved in politics in 2009 as part of the BDA, and was an active contributor to that team. She is now a strong believer in her role as part of the One Bermuda Alliance team, looking to effect positive change for Bermuda going forward. |
